Dr. Dan French
DVM, DACVS, DACVSMR
Born and raised in Calgary, Dan actively competed in the jumper circuit for several years before pursuing his veterinary career. He graduated from WCVM in 1983, completing an internship at the Littleton Equine Medical Center in Colorado, followed by a surgical residency back at WCVM. Dan returned to Calgary and practiced with the Okotoks Animal Clinic for 25 years. Since his return to Calgary, he has overseen the horse program, as well as being the official FEI Treating Veterinarian at Spruce Meadows. Dr. French is board certified in both equine surgery and equine sports medicine and rehabilitation. His main practice focus is in the jumper dressage disciplines. He enjoys mentoring and teaching through his role as a clinical instructor at UCVM. In addition to overseeing operations at his family’s stable, Teradan Farms, you may find him playing some golf in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Dr. Suzon Schaal
DVM, BSc
Dr. Schaal grew up outside of Millarville, AB on her family farm and has been involved with horses since her youth. She graduated from WCVM in 2004, and then completed an internship at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center before returning to practice at Okotoks Animal Clinic in Alberta. Suzon is a well known and respected competitor in the discipline of Working Cow Horse. In recent years, Suzon and her mount Ginna (Genuine Brown Gal) have won 5 World Championships and multiple Calgary Stampede titles in the Non- Pro division, among other successes. Suzon continues to compete at the top level of her sport while maintaining the busy lifestyle of an equine veterinarian. Suzon has a strong interest in podiatry and lameness, focusing primarily on the western performance horse.
Dr. Candice Crosby
DVM, BSc
Dr. Crosby has been involved with horses from a very young age, growing up on her family farm in Falmouth, Nova Scotia. Her father, Kevin Crosby, competed at the top level of show jumping as Candice was growing up. Candice graduated from AVC in 2008, and completed an internship at Okotoks Animal Clinic. She has continued to practice in Alberta since that time. Candice is an Official FEI veterinarian and works as an FEI veterinarian at Spruce Meadows and Rocky Mountain Show Jumping tournaments. Candice is an avid polo player and hunter/jumper competitor. She specializes in performance horse medicine, and focuses her interests on the polo horse and hunter/jumpers. She is a familiar face at Spruce Meadows, Rocky Mountain Show Jumping and the Calgary Polo Club
Dr. Lisa Millican
DVM, MVSc
Like many others at TD equine veterinary group, Dr. Lisa Millican is from the Maritimes. Dr. Millican
graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island in 2014. After graduation she
worked at an equine sports medicine private practice in Massachusetts for 2 years. Eager to learn more
and further her skills she moved back to PEI for an equine practice residency. There she grew to love
equine reproduction and worked alongside a boarded specialist. Other interests include sports medicine
and dentistry. After having completed her residency, Dr. Millican was excited to continue her veterinary
career in 2019 here in Alberta. When not working Dr. Millican spends most of her time with her
Labrador Retriever, Rosie. She also enjoys climbing and skiing.
Dr. Charlotte MacLeod
DVM
Dr. Charlotte MacLeod grew up on an acreage west of Calgary, AB and was involved with horses from a young age. She spent many years riding and competing on the local hunter and show jumping circuits. She was fortunate enough to grow up next door to a local equine vet practice which played a major role in her decision to pursue a career as an equine veterinarian. She graduated with her DVM in 2017 from the University of Calgary and completed an internship at McKinley and Peters Equine Hospital in Spokane, WA. Following a few years in practice, Charlotte and her husband Heath (also a veterinarian) moved abroad in 2021 to New Zealand. Charlotte worked at an equine practice near Auckland that served a large community of Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing operations as well as English performance horses. There, she expanded her skills in performance horse medicine, lameness and reproduction. Charlotte and Heath moved back to Canada in Spring of 2023 and welcomed their first daughter shortly after. While balancing her new role as “mom”, Charlotte is looking forward to practicing once more in southern Alberta.

Dr. Sierra Shoemaker
DVM
Dr. Sierra Shoemaker was born and raised in Idaho, where a lifelong passion for horses and the outdoors shaped her path toward veterinary medicine. After working as a veterinary technician for five years, she pursued her veterinary degree at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2023. She then completed her internship here at TD Equine, where she continues to expand her skills in equine care. Dr. Shoemaker has a strong professional interest in equine sports medicine and, outside of work, enjoys hiking, drawing, painting, kayaking, paddleboarding, and traveling.
Lynn Williams
Registered Veterinary Technologist
Originally from Eastend, Saskatchewan, Lynn has a strong interest in the western performance horse. She lives on an acreage east of Okotoks with her family, and several horses, dogs, and cats. Lynn oversees operations at TD Equine and can often be found assisting the doctors, and helping to keep things organized in the practice.
Tammy Klassen
Client Care Specialist
Originally from Saskatchewan, Tammy and her partner Rob live near Millarville on a cattle ranch/boarding facility. Although new to Alberta, Tammy is not new to veterinary medicine, having a great deal of experience in reception and clinical support in the veterinary setting. On her days off you will find Tammy on horseback helping out on the ranch. She is a proud mother of 2 grown children.
Kelsey Jansen
Accounts Receivable + Client Care Specialist
Kelsey grew up in Colorado where her lifelong love for horses and riding began at a young age. She was active in the United States Pony Club for many years and competed in the disciplines of eventing and show jumping. Kelsey’s horse experience has expanded over the years into teaching, and now working in a veterinary environment. She is very excited to work alongside a dedicated and passionate team of equine veterinarians and professionals. Outside of work, Kelsey’s favourite thing is to spend time with her daughter and husband, and ride whenever she can!
Ashley Champ
Veterinary Technologist + Assistant
Ashley grew up on an acreage east of Calgary where her love for horses began. She was active in 4-H and Pony Club and spent her youth riding in a variety of disciplines. Her passion for equine medicine inspired her to enroll in the Veterinary Technologist program at Olds College, where she graduated in 2025. Now working alongside Dr. Millican, she supports a wide range of clients and disciplines providing high quality, attentive care. Outside of work, Ashley can often be found in the mountains hiking, fishing, skiing, or riding her beloved horse, Little Bear.
Sierra Paterson
Veterinary Assistant
Sierra grew up working with a variety of different horses. She moved to the Calgary area in 2019 and started her career in veterinary medicine. Continuing on to work in a small animal emergency clinic outside of Okotoks. As much as she loved ER medicine she longed to work with horses again. Having a passion for the western horse world, she found being an assistant to Dr. Schaal the perfect next step. Sierra enjoys spending her downtime out on the trails with her horses Killian and Baloo, and her loving pup Sophie leading the way
Brooklyn Calder
Veterinary Assistant
Brooklyn has spent most of her life in Foothills County, where she grew up surrounded by equine opportunities and found herself riding and training within the cutting horse community. She completed the Veterinary Assistant program at Olds College in 2021. In her spare time, you can find her in the mountains skiing, fishing and hiking. She currently works alongside Dr. Shoemaker, and together they serve a wide range of clients and disciplines.
Angie Benson
Veterinary Assistant
Angie grew up on a mixed farm near Riding Mountain, Manitoba. She moved to Alberta because it was horse country. Angie worked on a standardbred breeding farm that also trained horses for the racetrack. She developed a love of driving and training and since then has had a retired race horse for combined driving, cattle penning and trail riding. She also spent many years at Okotoks animal clinic. Angie and Piper (her black lab) are a part of PALS and visit hospitals and senior centers.
Katy Jorgensen
Veterinary Assistant
Katy came to us from the Lethbridge area. She grew up riding horses and competing in eventing and show jumping. After university she moved into a grooming position and found opportunities across Canada, Europe, and the USA, where she gained valuable experience supporting and caring for equine athletes at the FEI level. Katy has always been drawn to the medical side of animals and spent time in emergency veterinary medicine before finding herself as Dr. Crosby’s reliable right hand. The two have become a familiar pair amongst the polo and english sport horse communities. When she’s not at work, Katy is kept busy with her own four-legged crew of 2 dogs and 2 horses who keep her happily on her toes.
Emily Dixon
Veterinary Assistant
Emily is a dedicated Veterinary Assistant who brings both passion and experience to the team. Originally a client before joining the TD team, she offers a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for the level of care provided. Emily is a lifelong horse lover and has ridden in various disciplines. She currently enjoys competing in barrel racing. Her interest in veterinary medicine, combined with her commitment to helping others, makes her a natural fit in our fast-paced equine practice. Outside of the clinic, Emily is a wife and mother of two. She spends her spare time riding her horses and supporting her kids in their activities, especially junior rodeo.
Carol Mills
Stable Operations
Carol has worked for the French family and Teradan Farms for 23 years. Her main role is the daily running of the barn and taking care of the horses. Carol has seen many changes over the years. The biggest being the induction of TD Equine where she continues her role taking care of the horses and the barn. Carol was born in the UK where she graduated college in 1985 with a Business Education Diploma. Carol came to Canada in 1986. She bred Hanoverians for 16 years and enjoys doing dressage and clinics on her 3rd generation Hanoverian Roswell. Carol’s other passions include antiquing and enjoying running a small vintage décor business.
Karli Mergen
Accounting and Human Resources
Karli grew up in the Calgary area in a family that bred and raised warmbloods. She has a degree in Economics from the University of Calgary, and oversees the office at TD Equine, where she has been with the team since its start up in 2013. When she is not at work or riding her horse, Karli enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dachshunds.
